Hygienic and high purity process lines
BA finish tube and 316L for food, dairy and pharma
In hygienic service the surface is the specification. A bright annealed or electropolished internal surface means less product hold-up, easier passivation and a line that actually cleans in place — which is why pharmaceutical, dairy and beverage plant buys on Ra value, not just grade.

How we choose the material for this duty.
- Standard hygienic process lines: 316L BA finish tube to ASTM A270 / DIN 11850
- Sensitisation range or hot CIP service: 316Ti for stabilised corrosion resistance
- High purity, WFI and semiconductor: electropolished to Ra 0.25 µm, capped and bagged
- Instrument and impulse tubing: seamless 316L to ASTM A269 in 6 / 8 / 10 / 12 mm
- Matching clamp fittings, valves and flanges supplied with the tube
Grades we would specify.
Questions buyers ask about this duty.
What surface finish do we need for CIP?
Ra 0.8 µm is the usual minimum for clean-in-place food and dairy work; Ra 0.4 µm (standard BA) is specified for pharmaceutical process lines; Ra 0.25 µm electropolished for WFI, bioprocess and high purity gas.
316L or 316Ti for hot process lines?
316L is the default. 316Ti is used where the line sits in the 425 - 815 C sensitisation range or sees repeated hot CIP cycles, because the titanium stabilisation protects against intergranular attack.
