Mining haul bodies and buckets
Lighter bodies that carry more and last longer
A haul body or bucket built in abrasion resistant plate instead of structural steel carries more payload for the same tare weight and survives longer in abrasive ore. The design question is where to put the hard plate and where high strength structural plate is the smarter choice.
[ 02 ] Selection
How we choose the material for this duty.
- Floor and impact zones: Hardox 450 or 500 where the ore first lands
- Side walls and sloping sections: thinner Hardox 500 / 600 to cut tare weight
- Structural frame, subframe and cross members: S690QL or S960QL high strength plate
- Sticky ore and carry-back: UHMW-PE lining on the floor and tailgate
- Bending, rolling and profiling available so panels arrive formed
Grades we would specify.
Questions buyers ask about this duty.
Why use high strength steel in the frame instead of more Hardox?
Hardox is specified for wear resistance; S690QL and S960QL are specified for yield strength. Using high strength plate in the frame and hard plate only where material contacts gives a lighter body at the same strength and the same wear life.
Do you supply plate formed and ready to weld?
Yes — bending, rolling, profiling and bevelling to the panel drawing, so the body shop assembles rather than cuts and forms from full plates.
